Cocker Spaniel Mix    Age: Puppy

Parker is a very sweet boy who was rescued by a good Samaritan and it is very evident that he has had a very rough life. He has undoubtedly been very abused and has come a very long way in a relatively short time. When he first got into rescue he was extremely hand shy, was afraid to take treats, and waited until all the other dogs have eaten before he would begin to eat. He is learning how to be a dog. He did not know how to be in the house and once he learned he could actually sleep in the big bed with a blanket, he was a little dog in heaven. He is so very starved for attention and will drink in all you will give. Even after everything ... (Read More)he has been through this little guy has the sweetest disposition and even though it may take him a bit to warm up to someone, he loves everyone. Parker would do best in a quiet home where someone is home most of the time, and has another young dog to play with. He gets along with most other dogs and is pretty good with cats. He probably wouldn't do well in a home with younger children as he is still very leary of quick movements. Even though he is making great progress, it will take time, patience and steady socializing, etc. to bring him back to a more confident state of mind. If you are interested in Parker, just go to www.drnc.org and complete the Adoption Application. (Less)

I found Rusty on the side of the road, by his lonesome, scratching to make a bed from the dirt under the shade of a sad looking tree. It is almost as if he had chosen that tree on purpose for his sad little eyes mimicked the dry rocky dirt void of life surrounding him. It was a sunny day, 95 + degree weather, who knew when had been the last time this poor guy had a drink of water. From my experience, it takes a few hours for a stray to warm up to human strangers, I had no food or treats with me. So I sat a few feet away and waited until he was curious enough to come to me, all a while praying he wouldn't run into the incoming traffic of ... (Read More)the busy street we were on. It only took about 15 minutes of cooing to get this little guy to come over, with his big eyes and goofy ears, his curiosity got the best of him and what he did next made me glad I stopped to rescue this little guy. Rusty came wagging his little tail, smelled me and then like a toddler who needed his mommy, he snuggled right up against my leg, seemed thankful to had made a friend. Not sure what Rusty had to overcome in his previous lifetime on the streets, but this guy seems to have moved forwsrd and not look back. He is full of life, intelligent, a bit rebellion at times, goofy like his ears, and not a mean bone in his body. Rusty is very playful, he is dog friendly, kid friendly, and cat friendly. With cats he just tries to play with them but he doesn't show any aggression towards them, he is fine around my cat. He gets along with my female dogs, and with my male dog he likes to rough play with. He is recently house broken so can't guarantee accidents will not happen, demands a lot of play time, and his daily activities consist of playing, sleeping, chasing sqirrels, chasing anything really, and eating.     Blind Willie is an affable blind seven year old red with white markings Cocker Spaniel mix who was found without a collar or a microchip in Hacienda Heights on November 4th and brought to the Baldwin Park Shelter where he currently is being hidden out of view of the public in the off limits Building 4. Weighing seventeen pounds, Blind Willie is a calm, low energy dog who despite being blind, walks capably on leash. Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Oh, Henry! This little guy is simply amazing! And that's putting it simply! Henry was found in a park by a Good Samaritan. A group of children were throwing rocks and other objects at him and he was unable to escape. When brought to the shelter it was confirmed that Henry suffered from paralysis in his rear legs. We are uncertain how he became paralyzed, but we do know for certain that it was only temporary! Henry came to us needing to use a cart for mobility (and did quite well with it) but he is walking 100% on his own now. Oh, it is evident that he still has a little bit of healing to go - his front end walks normally and the ... (Read More)back end looks drunk on occasion, but that just makes this miracle boy that much more adorable. Of all things, though children were throwing things at him and hurt him, Henry still loves children!!! As long as the child is respectful and gentle and wants to give Henry attention, he will follow the child nearly anywhere. He loves adult humans as well, and gets along great with other dogs, big and small, and even cats too. Henry is awesome! If you would like more information about Henry and/or would like to be considered to be his lucky adopter, please go to the Adoption Process page of our website, throwmeabonedogrescue.org. There you can read about what we need from you and find the link for our adoption application. All potential adopters are expected to complete an application and provide pictures of their yard, patio, and/or balcony making sure we can see the fence line and/or railing. The application can be completed and submitted from our website - throwmeabonedogrescue.org - and is found under Resources. Applications will be reviewed for approval before setting an appointment to come meet and possibly adopt the dog of interest. In addition, those who live in a rental property are expected to provide proof that they are allowed to have a dog where they live. Each of our rescued dogs has been de-wormed if necessary, de-flea'd (with topical treatment if old enough, and by medicated bath if too young), spayed/neutered, microchipped, is up to date on shots, and has been fully examined by a veterinarian. In addition, each adopted dog comes with a starter baggie of the food it has been eating, a few treats for training purposes, a rawhide chew, a lead and collar, and a folder containing pertinent records. PIease Read Before Adopting a Cocker Spaniel in California
Cocker Spaniel Dogs can make good pets in California if they match your IifestyIe. The American Cocker Spaniel is a sociable, sunny, affectionate breed. Cocker Spaniels are good gun dogs but are especially suited to be family pets. Cockers need human companionship, affection, and attention. Most Cocker Spaniels are wonderful around children. Cockers are usually easy to train but can be difficult to housebreak. Cockers are energetic and need lots of exercise, but can adapt well to an apartment or a home with a small yard.
