|Rescue Me ID: 16-01-31-00622Buffy (female)|
Buffy is a 14 year old, female, cocker spaniel. She is current on her shots, has tested negative for heartworms, and will be spayed before adoption. Buffy came from a very sad situation. A former adopter reached out to us about an acquaintance of theirs that had a dog that desperately needed vet care, but refused to have it done. They agreed to release her to rescue for the vet care needed. We were first told she had a tumor on her back, was about 4 years old, and had a little trouble getting around. We picked her up and immediately noticed this girl was not 4 years old, she was not properly cared for whatsoever, was matted, with nails so long they were curving back under into her paw, and was severely under weight. We then noticed her eyes were white and cloudy, she was having trouble standing, she didn't respond to noise, and the tumor on her back was almost bigger than she was. After having the tumor removed and a good vet assessment, we were given a good picture of her overall health. Buffy has cataracts in both eyes, leaving her almost completely blind, only seeing lights and shadows it seems, her ears were so infected they were swollen shut, leaving her almost completely deaf. She also had a bad bladder infection, which has left her unable to hold her pee for too long. Buffy can walk but does have a problem with a disc in her spine, making her a little wobbly in her hind end. If she doesn't jump up or down and takes it easy, the disc should stay in place and she should be just fine throughout the rest of her days. We also found out she was definitely not 4 but 14 years old, a 10 year difference. Buffy was crated and left alone and with little to no food her entire life. However, the cruelty and neglect she endured has not put a damper on her spirit. She is a silly and very loveable girl. She likes to play and is a little snoop. All she is asking for is a comfy bed to call her own and a patient, loving family, to call her own until she is called home. She would do best in a home where someone is always home to care for, keep and eye on, and love on her. She deserves to life the last years of her life comfortable and loved. If interested, please contact us for an application. Our rescue does not go by a first come, first serve basis. We process the applications that come in, and choose the best home for each dog. However, we also do not hold dogs. They are ready to be adopted now. After a dog is adopted, we can then rescue another dog in need. Thank you for choosing a rescue dog. (Less)

|Rescue Me ID: 16-01-31-00594Betsy (female)|
Betsy is a 13 year old, female, cocker spaniel. She is current on shots, has tested negative for heartworm, and will be spayed before adoption. Betsy is an old gal, but still full of life. She is still playful and ready to go. Betsy was picked up as a stray by our local shelter, and we just couldn't leave her in the shelter, so we rescued her. She was extremely matted and disgusting when we took her in. After a day at the groomers, she came out both looking and feeling so much better. She has some cataracts in her eyes, leaving her partially blind, and bad ear infection, leaving her partially deaf, but you would never notice by the way she acts. Neither her age nor her ailments slow this girl down and she is longing for a family to call her own. A big comfy bed, someone to love her and cuddle with her, and she will be a happy baby. (Less)

Or email email@example.com About Our Shelter... CITY DOGS Cleveland is a program of Cleveland Animal Care & Control (CACC), located at 2690 W. 7th St. Cleveland, OH 44113. Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. Our Adoption Process... Here's a little about how things work: All of the CITY DOGS posted for adoption are available for direct adoption from the kennel, unless noted otherwise. A handful of dogs are only available for rescue pull, which can be for a variety of reasons. You can either stop in during our open hours to meet a dog, or set up a meet and greet with your dog, which allows us to get the dog out of his/her cage for some exercise before you arrive. To set up a meet and greet, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. About Our Dogs: All available dogs have gone through the ASPCA SAFER Assessment. This assessment is a snapshot of who the dog is at that given time. Our dogs are strays and we cannot make any guarantees with regard to behavior, temperament or health of any City Dog. We do not know what kind of home environment they were living in (i.e. with kids, other dogs or other cats), nor do we know if they are house trained. Everything we know about them is based on volunteer and staff observations. It is very hard to tell with certainty whether or not a dog will be good with kids, cats or another dog. If you have kids in the home or another dog, we do require that they be present for a meet and greet with the dog you are considering for adoption. Heath/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within a week or so of leaving the kennel. They do have their DHPP, Rabies and Bordetella vaccinations, are dewormed once and have a microchip. In addition, unfortunately many of the dogs do get kennel cough. This is not something that is contagious to people at all, but dogs that do have it will need to be on an antibiotic. (Less)

Cocker Spaniel Dogs can make good pets in Ohio if they match your IifestyIe. The American Cocker Spaniel is a sociable, sunny, affectionate breed. Cocker Spaniels are good gun dogs but are especially suited to be family pets. Cockers need human companionship, affection, and attention. Most Cocker Spaniels are wonderful around children. Cockers are usually easy to train but can be difficult to housebreak. Cockers are energetic and need lots of exercise, but can adapt well to an apartment or a home with a small yard.
